Theoretical aspects of the development of single-industry towns in modern conditions

Abstract

The article deals with theoretical aspects of the development of single-industry towns in modern conditions. The scientific approaches of different countries to the definition of the concept of «single-industry towns» have been investigated and it is revealed that all countries associate this concept mainly with large enterprises that operate in the town. The opinions of scientists in the part of clarifying the concept of «single-industry towns» are analyzed not only on the basis of a branch line, but in connection with the life cycle of the town. In the article, the features of towns are singled out, according to which the terms «mono-productive» and «single-industrial» are widely used. The problems of formation and development of single-industry towns of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with the envisaged tasks of the Program for the Development of the Regions until 2020 through the diversification of the economy were discussed. The author grouped singleindustry towns of Kazakhstan by macroregions: North, Central-Eastern, Southern and Western. The singleindustry towns of the Republic of Kazakhstan are classified according to their industry characteristics: the sector in which the largest part of the population is engaged and the share of the town's economy is the most significant. The implementation of measures to develop single-industry towns of the Republic of Kazakhstan according to the Program for the Development of Regions to 2020 is analyzed. Recommendations for sustainable development of single-industry towns of the Republic of Kazakhstan are proposed depending on socio-economic factors
